I am a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu black belt and have been training for the past 12 years. BJJ makes me a better version of myself each and every day. It has given me self confidence and inner peace that goes beyond the gym. I’ve noticed its positive impact on the way I interact with people in my personal life, professional life as well as new people I meet on a regular basis. Jiu Jitsu has given me a purpose and direction in life along with a safe place to relieve stress in a healthy manner. I am beyond grateful for the amazing community Jiu Jitsu has shared with me and all of the incredible friendships I’ve developed around the world.

I created Jiu Jitsu FLO with 2 goals in mind

Share the benefits of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu through Movement

- I understand not everyone is interested in learning self defense or martial arts. Maybe you are dealing with injuries, afraid of getting injured, feeling intimidated to walk into a martial arts gym, and the list goes on. Jiu Jitsu FLO is an alternative way to experience some of the benefits Brazilian Jiu Jitsu has to offer, including Self Confidence, New Skill Acquisition, Community and more.

Help BJJ Practitioners Stay Healthy & Progress Faster through their Jiu Jitsu Journey

- I have dealt with many injuries throughout my 11 years of training, often sidelined for months at a time. Jiu Jitsu FLO can be used as a warm up and/or cool down that is very helpful for injury prevention. When we’re not able to make it to a Jiu Jitsu class due to work, family or life circumstances it is important to stay moving. Especially if we’re sitting at a desk all day, having movements we can do 5-10 minutes at a time will significantly help with the longevity of our bodies as BJJ practitioners as well as human beings overall. In addition, especially for beginning Jiu Jitsu practitioners, learning the movements to a technique can be extremely helpful to the understanding and efficiency of performing techniques with a partner. Jiu Jitsu FLO incorporates 100s of movements used in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.

My goal is to share these benefits to as many people as possible, whether it be through the solo movements of Jiu Jitsu FLO or the self defense/sport aspect. I believe the world would be a better place if everyone had Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in their lives.

What is Jiu Jitsu FLO?

Jiu Jitsu FLO is a movement system based on Jiu Jitsu and grappling techniques. The goal is to increase mobility, body coordination, technique and self confidence in order to flow better on the mats. You can use these movements as a warm up and/or cool down to help deal with the toll your body takes in live training. No partner and little to no equipment is required. This is a great way to compliment live training when you can’t make it to class, dealing with an injury or looking for ways outside of class to continue improving.

Warm Up & Cool Down

The majority of BJJ schools/gyms have some type of warm up before class. However, there are also gyms that either expect you to be warm when class starts or might not target the whole body during their warm ups. Jiu Jitsu FLO has 100s of solo movements and a variety of different FLOs that can be used to help warm up before class or cool down afterwards.


Injury Prevention

Dealing with constant aches, pains/injuries is something we in the Jiu Jitsu community have come to accept as part of the journey. However, if we can strengthen our body and increase our flexibility through the movements used in the sport we all love, it only makes sense to take advantage of it. Jiu Jitsu FLO focuses on increasing stabilization, strength, mobility and body coordination to help prevent future or recurring injuries.

Practicing the solo movements will build muscle memory in our body so when we learn the technique in class we don’t have to think about it as much. In addition, we will have the body coordination to do the movements & techniques on both sides vs only our “strong side” due to Jiu Jitsu FLO classes spending equal time on both sides of the body.

The Brazilian Jiu Jitsu community continues to grow and has a very welcoming atmosphere. People train around the world from all ages, sizes and abilities. I’m hoping to grow the Jiu Jitsu FLO community in the same light where people can enjoy connecting their mind, body and breath together.

Jiu Jitsu FLO is a great introduction to Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, especially for those who may not be comfortable trying the “Martial” Art aspect. Due to the fact that these movements are directly correlated to Brazilian Jiu Jitsu techniques, they will give you a strong understanding of the fundamentals if it's something that ever interests you in the future
